Because, e-Waste is often absent from corporate sustainability initiatives, poor recycling practices have already cost corporations millions in fines and negatively impacted their reputation from data breaches, environmental contamination or both.
25 states and the District of Columbia have enacted legislation establishing e-Waste, recycling requirements.
Federal Trade Commission
The FTC is responsible for enforcing the “Disposal Rule” which requires companies to properly dispose of personally identifiable information on computer hard drives or other digital media.
Penalties may reach $1,000 for every affected consumer
